GULF SHORES, ALA. - Area high school students will once again have the opportunity to be rewarded for their vocal talents as organizers for the milestone 50th Annual National Shrimp Festival recently announced the return of its Singing for Scholarships (SFS) competition, sponsored by RE/MAX of Gulf Shores.

Created in 2013, the mission of SFS is to support and showcase the talented youth of Baldwin
County. This year's competition will take over the West Stage, located in the middle of the Festival grounds on Saturday morning, Oct. 14. The location provides a unique platform for these students to shine. Established artists like Miranda Lambert, Eddie Money, and Joe Diffie have performed on the very same stage as headlining entertainment acts throughout the Festival’s 50-year history.

“For many of these students, this is their first time on a stage of this magnitude," said SFS Chairman Allison Pryor, "The competitors are genuinely very supportive of each other. I'm always so proud of the abilities and attitudes they showcase."

Recent SFS contestants, such as 2022 second-place winner Victoria Holley of Foley High School, have even shined on a national stage. Holley was just featured performing the National Anthem live on ESPN prior to the finals of the NCAA Women's Beach Volleyball Tournament in Gulf Shores on May 7.

The spotlight and glory aren't the only thing up for grabs as cash prizes will be awarded as follows:

● 1st Place: $1,000 to the student & $500 to their school
● 2nd Place: $500 to the student & $500 to their school
● 3rd Place: $250 to the student & $500 to their school

Contestants vying to participate must be enrolled in any high school program within the Baldwin County area (including private and homeschool students) through Oct. 14. Enrollment in a music or choir program is not mandatory for eligibility. Each school will independently designate one representative for the competition.

Judges will score contestants on a variety of topics. These include stage presence and vocal performance among others.

Students are encouraged to contact their teachers, guidance counselors, music directors, or other school administrators for further information. Students are also asked to reach out to SFS Chairman Allison Pryor at ShrimpFestivalSFS@gmail.com or 251.752.8706 should they have interest in a chance to perform.
