The iconic Flora-Bama attracts thousands of folks from all walks of life when it holds its 34th Annual Mullet-Toss. Having developed into a 3-day beach party, it generates over $10 million in the local economy while raising over $30,000 for local charities and youth groups. Beginning at 10 a.m., Friday thru Sunday, the event consists of simply tossing a mullet, one of the areas most popular local fish, from a 10-foot circle in Florida towards Alabama on crystal, white sand.
Trophies to be awarded 3-deep in 19-age categories, male and female, each day of the event with plenty of food, ice-cold beverages, music and excitement for all, including Miss Mullet, bikini and guys, Mr. Mullet hard-body contests. A $15 fee to toss a fish includes a souvenir T-Shirt with portion of proceeds going to the Community Drug & Alcohol Council, Youth Outreach, and the local Boys & Girls Clubs.
While parking is free, it's suggested to take a shuttle or trolley available from the parking lots at Publix in Orange Beach and Winn-Dixie in Perdido Key beginning at 7 am each day, only $5 one-way or show up by boat. A cover charge, Gulf-Side only is $10 for 21+, $15 13-20 year olds with kids under 12 free. Come by boat or taxi and enjoy sumptuous fare at either the Ole River Grill or Yacht Club prior or after the event. The Miss Mullet bikini contest will be held under the Tent Stage 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday with over $2,000 in cash and prizes each day. The top 3 finalists, for both days, will go onto the Grand "Miss Flora-Bama $5,000 cash contest, Labor Day weekend. A male hot body contest to be held just prior each day at 1 p.m.
A special engagement by "Big Earl" with a BBQ at the Yacht Club, Thursday, 5-9 pm, April 25th, kicks off 4-days of awesome music with over 50 acts on five different stages including "Bat", "Electric Dawg", "Jerry Jacobs Band", "Magic Johnsons", "Red Clay Strays", "Oliver's Twist", "Lucky Doggs", "Hung Jury", "River Dan Band", "Whiskey River Band", "Ben Jernigan Duo", "Albert Simpson & John Kulinich", "Perdido Brothers", "Bruce Smelley", and "Jo Jo Pres”.
