Orange Beach, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama Business Chamber (CABC) announced today a brand new event coming to The Wharf on Saturday, Aug. 26, the Inaugural Coastal Tailgate Cook-Off Challenge. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample a variety of foods while taking in a game day atmosphere. Tailgating teams will be competing for a coveted golden ticket to the World Food Championships (WFC) in Dallas, Texas as well as people’s choice awards in several categories.

Along with celebrating the return of football, this event will act as a kickoff fundraiser for the new CABC Foundation, which will be supporting education efforts in the Coastal Alabama area.

“The new foundation has been a labor of love for us behind the scenes and we can’t wait to introduce it to the community,” said Penny Hughey, VP of Education & Programs for the CABC, “The Chamber believes in supporting education to serve as a bridge between our school systems and our local workforce.”

Greg Alexander, President & CEO of the CABC had this to say, “Establishing a foundation will help us coordinate & fund educational resources, programs, and research to further advance the activities of the Chamber. We are excited for the new opportunities this will bring to our efforts.”

Danny Calametti, CEO of Alabama Coasting and a longtime WFC Partner, adds, “It’s great to help bring a big-time WFC Competition back to Orange Beach. Everywhere we go WFC teams talk about what a great time they had when the competition was here and so we’re happy to help welcome them back… and there’s plenty of room for new competitors too.” Calametti is quick to add, “Amateurs have always done well and had a good time at our events, so if you can cook tailgate food, then whether you’re a professional or first-timer, you are welcome.”

Competitor Information:

The entry fee to take part in the Challenge is $100 and the CABC will post rules, competition details, and a sign-up link to mygulfcoastchamber.com the week of May 15. The competition is open to amateurs & professionals of all ages who can compete either as an individual or a team.
