Job Description
As part of the Gulf State Park Staff, this employee would do a variety of jobs that are essential in maintaining the planting areas and grounds of Gulf State Park. This position will allow you to get your hands dirty as you plant and nurture native and garden variety plants in our many beautiful flowerbeds. You will work with our Park Gardner to help choose and install plants that benefit and promote the natural cycles of the wildlife. This position would include planting new trees, pruning, and servicing basic garden machinery.

Duties including but not limited to:
• Assist crew leader in all landscape operations daily.
• Safely operate equipment with all necessary personal protective equipment.
• Edging, mowing, trimming, pruning, pulling weeds, and weed eating with both hand tools and power equipment (training provided).
• Cleans sites, watch for trash, limbs, and rocks.
• Plantings and flower installations in established planting areas.
• Properly maintain/clean vehicles and equipment daily.
• Unload equipment from trucks/trailers.
• Correctly water materials.
• Blow leaves and clippings.
• Apply fertilizers and selective pesticide applications.

Additional physical demands include:
• Able to be outside 40 hours a week in extreme conditions (heat, cold, precipitation).
• Safely perform heavy lifting/pushing/pulling of various landscaping equipment and materials, including, but not limited to backpack blowers, large containers of mulch/plant material, various sizes of lawnmowers, etc.
• Safely operate hand and power equipment.
• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Lift branches and limbs
• Push, pull, grip and squeeze various tools, products and/or items (e.g., pruning)
• Walk up to 10 miles a day, sometimes uphill and on uneven terrain, often while carrying, pushing, or pulling equipment, materials, or debris.
• Bend and kneel up to 8 hours or more a day

This is a seasonal, 40 hour per week position. Hours for this position are from 7:00am to 3:00pm. The work schedule for this position will include the ability to work some holidays and weekends. The starting pay for this position is from $10.19.
