The South Alabama Workforce Development Council (SAWDC) will announce the addition of Hospitality and Tourism as a focus industry in Region 7 at a press event at the Gulf Shores Welcome Center.
“The SAWDC Board of Directors and staff are proud to announce Hospitality as its 5th cluster or “industry partnerships”. Region 7 is home to more than 40% of the state’s hospitality jobs. Local and regional data in this sector meet the definition of high wage and high demand. The industry is a core economic driver in the region and SAWDC is proud to support pathways and career development to quality jobs in the industry” - Dr. Josh Duplantis, Executive Director SAWDC.
Local business professionals, elected officials, tourism officials, and educators will be on hand for the announcement.
In 2018, Region 7 accounted for more than $5Billion in tourism spending and played host to more than 9.7 Million tourists according to AL.com. “More than 60,000 high- demand, high-paying jobs are supported by tourism in the region” states Ed Bushaw, Workforce Development Director for the Gateway Initiative, a collaboration between the South Baldwin and Coastal Alabama Chambers of Commerce. Bushaw continued, “In support of the Governor’s “Success Plus” initiative, an additional announcement will be made on our sponsorship and administration of youth and adult apprenticeships in Lodging and Restaurant Management.
