On April 6, the 100-1000: Restore Coastal Alabama Partnership needs volunteers to deploy 20,500 interlocking blocks--which weigh between 30-35 pounds each--to create four reefs at Pelican Point which is near the mouth of Weeks Bay in Baldwin County, Alabama. This area has experienced significant habitat loss and erosion that has negatively impacted the very resources that draw residents and support local economies.

Once constructed, the reefs will protect the adjacent shoreline and enhance habitat for fish, shellfish and birds.  This will provide opportunities for fishing, bird watching and sightseeing from land, kayak or boat. Funding for this project is made possible through grants from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Southeast Aquatic Resources Partnership and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
