The Azusa Pacific University Choir and Orchestra from Los Angeles, CA, will provide a free Mother's Day concert (with love offering) on May 12th at 2:30 pm in the Gulf Shores United Methodist Church sanctuary (1900 Gulf Shores Parkway). This is one of the largest ensembles to ever perform in south Baldwin County, with a choir of 100 students and a 40-piece orchestra! A nationally renowned, mixed-voice choral and orchestral ensemble under the direction of John Sutton, DMA, the Pacific University Choir and Orchestra (UCO) performs a wide variety of music with a concentration in contemporary Christian music at churches and schools throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, as well as overseas.
UCO has a rich history of collaborative performances, including two NBC Christmas specials, three sold-out concerts at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Symphonic Spectacular, concerts with the Long Beach Symphony POPS! Orchestra, and a performance as the featured musical ensemble for the sixth World Congress for Nurse Anesthetists. Accolades include: the Dove Award for the musical recording Exaltation, and a Grammy nomination for the Gospel recording Amen with the Cincinnati POPS! Orchestra in 1990.
In addition to bi-monthly concert appearances, UCO tours extensively each year, appearing in churches, schools, and civic organizations in the western United States, as well as internationally in countries like Mexico, Canada, and South Korea. Their 2013 May Tour will include performances in Birmingham, AL, Memphis, TN, Jackson, MS, Raleigh, NC, and Gulf Shores, AL.
