Halloween Myths:  Legend of the Vampire
Dr. Lesley Gregorika

How did the legend of the vampire develop and why were some individuals feared for demonic powers?  Dr. Lesley Gregorika ‘s research  is based on burial rites in eastern Europe in the  16th and 17th centuries. She will discuss  how these individuals were perceived in their  communities  and reasons why they may have been feared.

"Today we might find it silly to believe in vampires," Gregoricka says. But "before scientific understanding ,  vampires were perceived as a very real threat and represented one way of explaining the unexplainable."
