Name: Birds of the Alabama Gulf Coast - USA Distinguished Lecture Series
Date: January 12, 2017
Time: 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM CST
Event Description:
Birds of the Alabama Gulf Coast

Dr. John Dindo is an Associate Director and Senior Marine Scientist III of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. During this lecture series, he will discuss the range of coastal habitats in our area that support a unique diversity in avian species from flooded riverine forests to sandy shorelines of the Gulf of Mexico-and how changes in natural and man-made environments affect these habitats.

Dindo's research interest centers around vertebrate ecology of the coastal environment. He has worked extensively on larger wading birds (herons and egrets) with respect to population dynamics and the interaction of large and small-scale weather events on mortality. One of the areas he is looking at now is the fate of nutrients generated from the presence of the large numbers of birds on the vegetation they nest in.
