Event Description:
On September 8, 2014 the Friends of the Orange Beach Public Library will host an Author Wine and Cheese event at the Orange Beach Senior Activity Center. This event will begin at 7:00 p.m. This event will feature talks from authors Cindy Bates Muir, Charles R. McInnis and Sylvia Williams Dodgen. It is free and open to the public. Ms. Muir is the author of ?Schooled for Murder?, a story about an amateur sleuth who also dreams of being a Trop Rock singer. She is a former elementary music teacher and directed church children?s choirs for 32 years. Ms. Muir lives in Dallas, Texas and is a member of the San Antonio Parrothead Club and an enthusiast of Trop Rock music. She is also the caretaker for the Jimmy Buffett Museum of Port Aransas, TX. ?Schooled for Murder? is her first book. Charles R. McInnis is a resident of Fairhope, AL and Over the past few years he has won and placed in several writing contests. As a result, his short stories have appeared in Collected Words: From Writers of the Southern Coast, an anthology published by the Baldwin Writers Group, and in the Magnolia Quarterly, published by the Gulf Coast Writers Association. Most recently, his poem, "Southern Streams," was selected for the finalist?s short list of the 2012 Faulkner-Wisdom Writing Competition, an international contest sponsored by the Faulkner Society headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. His short story, "Catching Starlight," was selected as a semi-finalist in the short story division of the same contest. Sylvia Williams Dodgen an Alabama native, received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Alabama. In 2014 she won first in poetry from the annual Alabama Writers' Conclave competition, which received submissions from across the nation. She also won an award for a short story entitled "The Best They Know How" from the annual Hackney Literary Awards. Her short stories have been published in the "Storyteller," the "Birmingham Arts Journal," and on line in "The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature" among others.
